When I was a kid, I used to believe that I’m destined for success even though at that time I literally have no single thing that I can be proud of. Yap, I was that little kid who loved to sit next to the computer playing online games all day long.

But then, as time goes by, I started to think “can I really be success?”

What does it take to be successful?

Do I have the chance to be successful?

Even when I look at the people around me, I don’t even have friends or relatives that has achieved massive success in his life. So how can I even think that my life is somewhat precious that I can be anything I want after looking at my surrounding?

So in 2016 at the age of 16 is the turning point of my life where I started to devote myself to become a lifelong learner. That decision transform the clueless Irfan who had no idea what life is all about into not so clueless Irfan as I am today.

I started to read books, learn from youtube, read articles, listen to a podcast, basically I’m trying to become a learning machine.

And then I found this one quote from Charlie Munger that changed my perspective and it says...

“To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want. The world is not yet a crazy enough place to reward a whole bunch of
undeserving people.”

Charles T. Munger

And when I read that quote, it was like an epiphany for me.

The key point of that quote is “Life does not give you what you want, but it gives you what you deserve”

For example, you want to be the best basketball player in the industry? You have to deserve to be the best basketball player in the industry. Which means, if you ain’t in the gym, you’re not putting in your best to improve your skill, why should you get the best?

Society tells you that you deserve stuff simply because you’re alive, but that’s not how the game works.

So whatever life situation you face right now (e.g. financially poor), that’s literally what you deserve.

When you operate with this level of mindset that if you want something, you have to deserve it.

You need to go all in pursuing it.

But, If you still don’t get what you want after pursuing it, ask yourself…

What can I do more to deserve to get what I want?

What improvement do I need to make?

That’s my article for today, I hope you get something valuable from this :)
